Hi,
Today on Saturday August 22, Helena has been 40 days in hospital.
Her physical condition has improved even if she still suffers from an
inflammation of the digestive tract.
Sometimes she feels rather down. She is tired of being bedridden, of having to
stay in hospital and of not being able to move about on her own.
Still, she can manage a little more everyday. This week she was able once to
sit up on the edge of her bed with the help of a physiotherapist.
Now she can raise her right arm without help. She can eat apple sauce and soup
and her voice is a bit stronger.
Today she managed to write a short email to her mother (she has got her
computer and internet access in her room). And a short message here !
I think it will take a few more days before she can get out of bed by herself.
What makes things difficult is that because Helena has been bedridden for so
long, she is physically very weak and because she is weak, she has to stay in
bed: its a kind of vicious circle. When we are with her, we help her do
simple exercises to build up her muscles again.

Aujourd'hui samedi 22 août, Helena entame son 40čme jour d'hospitalisation.
Son état physiologique s'est amélioré męme si elle est toujours embętée par
linflammation du tube digestif.
Le moral n'est pas toujours au beau fixe. Globalement elle en a marre d'ętre
allongée, d'ętre ā l'hôpital et d'avoir si peu d'autonomie.
Chaque jour il y a des petits progrčs. Cette semaine, elle a réussi une fois
avec l'aide de la kiné ā aller sur le bord du lit.
Maintenant, elle peut lever le bras droit sans aide. Elle mange des compotes
et des soupes et sa voix porte plus.
Aujourd'hui elle a réussi ā taper un petit mail ā sa maman (elle a son
ordinateur et internet dans sa chambre). Et un court message sur ce forum !
Avant de pouvoir sortir du lit toute seule, je pense qu'il va falloir attendre
encore quelques jours.
Ce n'est pas facile car on est vite piégé dans un cercle vicieux: alité -->
moins de muscle --> faible --> alité. Donc quand on est avec elle,on lui fait
faire des petits exercices.
